In Hong Kong, many elderly individuals living alone, elderly couples and other vulnerable groups face ongoing challenges in traveling between their homes and hospitals for essential medical appointments and treatments. For some, these journeys involve long-distance travel across districts. From arranging transportation to managing without adequate caregiving support, each trip can be physically and emotionally demanding. As such, the need for reliable medical escort services within the community remains both significant and pressing.

To provide meaningful, practical support, the BPS Global Charity Foundation (BPS) has recently partnered with the Chain of Charity Movement (CCM) to sponsor taxi fares for volunteer-accompanied medical visits, benefiting more than 100 elderly community members. Through this initiative, we aim to ease their financial burden and ensure they feel safe, secure and supported on their healthcare journeys.

Providing high-quality companionship requires not just passion, but professionalism. To ensure the highest standard of care for the elderly, three corporate volunteers from BPS Global participated in the Volunteer (Basic) Training Programme organised by CCM. The comprehensive training covered core volunteer missions, community escort techniques, best practices for home visits to solo-living seniors, wheelchair handling and other vital practical skills.

Armed with this knowledge, the BPS team joined CCM volunteers on the front lines, personally escorting elderly patients to their medical appointments and gaining firsthand insight into their daily needs and challenges.

This collaboration is just the beginning. Moving forward, BPS looks forward to forging a deeper partnership with the CCM, continuing to spread care and compassion to even more corners of the community.
